Synopsis
Be Brave is a feature documentary portrait of Renzo Rosso, the founder of Diesel and the OTB fashion group. It follows his rise from rural north-eastern Italy, where he grew up, to building Diesel from a small denim company into a global brand, and it asks where the line between truth and invention falls when a life is retold.
The film is built on a trick: Rosso himself was never filmed. Director Francesco Carrozzini has said not a single frame of Renzo was shot for it. Rosso's on-screen interventions and most of the archive-style snapshots of his childhood and early career are AI-generated, recreating periods for which no footage exists. Carrozzini, who appears in a storyline about chasing Rosso for an interview, is also AI-generated, though he exists in real life.
Other voices are real. Interviews with Anna Wintour, John Galliano, Johan Lindeberg, Glenn Martens, Maurizio Marchiori and Adriano Goldschmied are genuine filmed conversations, although their backdrops were sometimes retouched or stylised. The script was fully written in advance. The tone plays with the rule-breaker myth: its presentation line runs, "You can't tell the story of a rule-breaker by following the rules. So we didn't."

Be Brave is a feature documentary about Renzo Rosso, founder and chairman of the OTB Group and of Diesel, directed by Francesco Carrozzini and produced by Our Films and Our Ai. Pages give its running time as 90 minutes, though the producer's own release is reported to say 85. It had its world premiere on 10 September 2026 in the Official Selection, out of competition (Open section), at the 83rd Venice International Film Festival. The pages read name no distributor or streaming platform, so no place to watch it beyond the festival is confirmed.
It was made over about eighteen months with AI tools across the production process, and is described as combining genuine interviews and archive footage with AI-generated video. Deadline reports that Our Films built its own model with the Italian company Blackstone, led by AI creative director Roberto Beragnoli, and that shots drew on several named image and video models chosen shot by shot, with voices made in an ElevenLabs-based pipeline. One industry blog says the specific tools and costs have not been disclosed and that the film was funded by OTB Group.
Carrozzini is a photographer and director whose earlier feature documentary was Franca: Chaos and Creation (2015), about his mother, the former Italian Vogue editor Franca Sozzani. Lorenzo Mieli, Mario Gianani and Gabriele Immirzi produced it at Our Films, a Mediawan company. Mieli said the industry must regulate and control AI and prevent exploitation, while protecting jobs. The film was announced at a press meeting in Noventa Vicentina in late June.
Venice's festival director Alberto Barbera selected it, and one report quotes him calling the selection an experiment. Reuters called it one of the first AI-assisted entries to test the technology's place in mainstream cinema, and said many viewers will likely find it hard to tell that many sequences are not real. Rosso told Reuters he was moved to tears seeing himself as a child speaking, since no images of him as a boy exist, and rejected the idea that AI replaces designers: "Creativity is absolutely not replaced by the machine." The premiere came amid wider concern at the festival about AI and jobs, with George Clooney among those who have warned about the technology, though Reuters does not tie the warnings to this film.
Why it matters: pages describe it as the first Italian feature documentary made primarily with AI to screen at Venice, and one of the first AI-made feature documentaries to premiere at a major international festival. One blog reads its fashion-group funding as a sign that AI film investment is reaching outside traditional film finance. Critical reviews had not yet appeared in the pages read.

“Ne ho visti di documentari su commissione che parlano della stessa persona che li finanzia. Ne ho visti di documentari con biechi fini agiografici. Ma davvero una così egocentrica e adorante mai”View review on Letterboxd
“È incredibile che un film così privo di buon gusto, spessore e senso della misura (cinematografica) sia stato partorito in qualche modo da persone che hanno rivoluzionato moda e adv.”View review on Letterboxd
“All in all quite nice, even if I wasn't hugely interested in the subject matter to be honest, and that last part set in the future looked visually awful.”View review on Letterboxd
