Synopsis
Mira is a tsunami survivor who has made it her work to restore the sculptures her parents left behind. They are what is left of her past, and tending them is how she holds on to it.
Then a mysterious intruder breaks in and destroys them, shortly before a devastating earthquake strikes. The film sets up the stranger as a threat, and only afterwards does Mira learn that he had been trying to save her.
The makers describe it as a psychological thriller with an experimental visual language, a story of destruction and rebirth. It asks what true salvation is when catastrophe makes passengers of everyone and both art and memory are bound to drift away: holding on, or letting go. Disaster, ruined cityscapes and loss of the things people make sit at the centre of its tone.

Passenger is a short film of about fourteen and a half minutes by Yuanbo Song, a filmmaker and director from China, released in 2026. It is a psychological thriller made with generative AI. It is on YouTube, uploaded by the channel Galette Bleu under the title "Passenger | Reply AIFF Finalist 2026 AI Short Film", and a trailer sits on the same channel.
Reply's festival announcement says the film was made with Runway Gen 4.5, Higgsfield, Seedance 2.0 and Kling 3.0, and that AI let the team build large-scale disaster scenes and ruined cityscapes efficiently, cutting the time and cost of traditional effects and CGI. The announcement credits Song as director and AI filmmaker. The YouTube credits name Song Yuanbo, Wang Kaiqi and Ma Ning as prompt engineers and generative AI artists, and give the music to Song Yuanbo and Tansy Lam, made with Suno.
Song is named by Reply as the film's director and is the only maker the pages describe in any detail; they say nothing more about his earlier work or about any studio. The film appears under the Galette Bleu name, whose Instagram account, @galettebleu, posted a trailer reel on 17 May 2026 and clips on 22 May and 10 June 2026.
A YouTube trailer was posted on 22 May 2026, and the full film was read on YouTube with 52 views on 7 October 2026, with the trailer at 20 views the same day. Passenger was named one of ten finalists for the third Reply AI Film Festival on 28 July 2026. Reply says the festival, themed Imaginatio Nova, runs within the 83rd Venice International Film Festival, received more than 3,000 short films from 76 countries, and was to announce winners at a ceremony in Venice on 6 September 2026. The film's upload lists a screening at that festival in September 2026 and another at the Merge Film Festival in Massagno, Switzerland, in October 2026.
The pages read give no review or press piece on the film itself beyond the finalist announcement, and no result for it. Public comments on its Instagram trailer reel are few and brief, such as fire emoji and a one-line note praising the transitions.
Its place, as Reply frames it, is as one of ten films chosen from a field that judges weighed on creativity, production quality and the use of AI across every stage from script to post-production.
