Floating on Echoes
Floating on Echoes is the first album by The Velvet Sundown, the AI-generated psych-rock band, released on 5 June 2025 with 13 tracks running about 37 minutes, among them Rebel Shout, Smoke and Silence, Marching Shadows, Dust on the Wind, Drift Beyond the Flame and the title track, delivered by DistroKid under a ℗ line in the band's own name. Apple Music's notes observe that the band simply materialised with a debut album, that photos of its four named members had the uncanny look of AI images, and that the bio later confirmed a synthetic music project guided by human creative direction; they hear the record interrogating the idea of classic rock as modern pop, with a fried-blues riff opening Rebel Shout, vocals recalling Chris Cornell, broad anti-war lyrics, and no song passing four minutes. Euronews, explaining the controversy in July 2025, described the sound as bland cinematic alt-pop with insipid lyrics and traced the doubts to Reddit users whose Discover Weekly playlists had been flooded with the band's songs, an Instagram account of yellow-tinted images, and an overwrought Verified Artist bio. The album arrived two weeks before the second album Dust and Silence and a month before the band's admission, with the third, Paper Sun Rebellion, following on 14 July 2025.
