The Velvet Sundown
The Velvet Sundown is a synthetic psych-rock band whose Spotify bio, updated in July 2025, describes it as a synthetic music project guided by human creative direction and composed, voiced and visualised with the support of artificial intelligence, an ongoing artistic provocation about authorship and identity.

About The Velvet Sundown
It appeared on Spotify in June 2025 with two albums in a fortnight, Floating on Echoes on 5 June and Dust and Silence on 20 June, followed by Paper Sun Rebellion in July, and passed 400,000 monthly listeners within a month and a million by early July, helped by algorithmic and playlist placement.
Its four named members, vocalist Gabe Farrow, guitarist Lennie West, bassist Milo Rains and percussionist Orion Del Mar, have no history, no interviews and no performances, and the band's photographs were widely described as AI-generated; the music was distributed by DistroKid, and Deezer's detection tool flagged it as AI-generated. During the controversy a person calling himself Andrew Frelon told Rolling Stone the music was an art hoax made with Suno, then said he had no connection to the band, before the band itself confirmed on 5 July 2025 that all characters, music, voices and lyrics were generated with AI tools. Wikipedia's account also records that Deezer flagged the music as fully AI-generated. The releases carry a ℗ line in the band's own name, so they are self-released.
