YouTube has renamed and rewritten one of its monetisation policies to name three kinds of video that cannot earn ad money, one of them aimed squarely at AI personas posing as experts. The company says the rules themselves are unchanged; the new wording is meant to tell creators more plainly why a channel gets flagged.

The first group is templated, repetitive uploads: near-identical videos with little commentary, slideshows, stock storylines, and AI output churned from generic templates with no personal perspective. Channels that put their own transformative spin on material stay eligible.

The second, newly named group covers videos YouTube calls unsatisfying or off-putting, built on manipulative emotional formulas, copies of existing formats or shock for its own sake. The third targets synthetic people presented as human experts advising on health, law, money or politics, so an AI "doctor" pushing remedies or an AI finance host would cost a channel its revenue.

Tubefilter sets the update against the flood of low-effort AI slop on Shorts, Reels and TikTok, noting that YouTube still welcomes AI-generated people in videos, especially made with Google's own tools.
