At Google I/O, YouTube added Gemini Omni to the Remix menu in Shorts. The feature uses Google's model to rework existing clips, turning live action into animation or changing who appears, so a user willing to share their likeness with Gemini can place themselves in another creator's Short.
Remixed videos carry a digital watermark and link back to the original, and creators can opt out of Shorts remixing. The launch came a day after YouTube opened its likeness detection tool, which flags deepfakes of a person much as Content ID flags copyrighted material, to all creators.
YouTube also previewed Ask YouTube, a chatbot that recommends videos from conversational requests, starting with Premium subscribers.
