Spotify has announced an AI Persona badge for artist profiles whose public identity is AI-generated rather than a real person. From mid-September the badge appears on the profile, in search results and on track rows in playlists, and by default those artists are left out of editorial and algorithmic recommendations unless a listener follows them. Artists can self-declare through Spotify for Artists, but the company will also review profiles itself, starting with those above certain audience thresholds, and apply a badge where the name and imagery look like a photorealistic synthetic identity. Flagged artists are notified and can appeal. Spotify is careful to say this is about who the artist is, not how the music was made; disclosure of AI in the production process is handled separately through its AI Credits. Listener reporting of suspected personas is promised for later.
