Spotify is giving check marks a new job: showing that an artist profile belongs to a real person. A green Verified by Spotify badge will appear on profiles that pass the company's authenticity and trust review, starting in the coming weeks and widening as more of the catalogue is checked.
Alongside it, Artist Profile Protection, in beta, gives artists more say over what appears on their pages, so listeners can be surer that the releases they see actually came from them.
Tubefilter ties the move to AI-generated acts reaching the charts, which are harder to spot in audio than on video. The badge will not stop AI songs being released, but it gives listeners tired of slop a signal, and gives Spotify a safeguard while it keeps adding AI features of its own.
