SAG-AFTRA has come out in support of the Trump administration's National Policy Framework for Artificial Intelligence, saying it recognises that performers' voices, likenesses and performances should not be used without consent. The union's statement came on 26 March, six days after the White House published the framework.

It singled out the parts it likes: leaving disputes over AI training on copyrighted work to the courts rather than new legislation, the idea that workers should share in AI's gains, and room for free-market licensing alongside collective bargaining. It also endorsed the framework's call for a federal law against digital replica abuse that keeps First Amendment protections, and urged Congress to pass the bipartisan NO FAKES Act.

The Motion Picture Association had already welcomed the framework, saying strong copyright and innovation reinforce each other.

The framework's six parts run from child safety to data-centre permitting, and it seeks one national standard that would override state AI laws, which has drawn criticism from states wanting to keep their own protections. It follows a December executive order pre-empting state rules, and the White House wants Congress to write it into law.
