The Academy's board has approved the rules for the 99th Oscars, and generative AI is again the main talking point.
Screenplays in the writing categories must now have human authors, acting nominations are limited to roles performed by people who consented, and the Academy may ask any entrant how AI was used.
Other changes hit craft categories: voters must watch the VFX Bake-Off reels before the final round, and non-English films can qualify for international feature by winning a set prize at one of six festivals.
