Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg said on 14 September that his office had seized the domains of 12 websites spreading AI-made sexual videos of about 1,200 people who never consented. He called it the largest seizure of its kind; most victims are women and celebrities, among them actors, singers and politicians. Bragg said such fakes follow victims into their careers and private lives and take a heavy emotional toll.

The sites, with names such as AI Celebs, All Deepfake and Deepfake Porn, openly advertised AI-manipulated material and built their videos from existing photos and footage. The legal basis is a New York statute on the unlawful spread of intimate images, which carries a maximum of one year in jail.

No arrests have been made. The inquiry began when a victim came forward, and Bragg said there is no count of comparable sites, only that there are many, and the investigation into the people running them will continue. He asked other people targeted this way to get in touch with his office.
