Lara Raj of the girl group KATSEYE used a Weverse post on September 22 to say a viral video of her using a racial slur is an AI deepfake.
The clip, which Complex reviewed, stages her in a fake podcast interview speaking offensively. Raj, 20, called it disgusting, said it broke her heart, and said she had spoken up despite usually avoiding such replies because they tend to feed hostility.
She asked people to remember that performers in their teens and twenties are human and can be hurt, thanked fans who checked in, urging them to keep spreading kindness.
The post came as KATSEYE, touring as four members while Manon Bannerman and Sophia Laforteza are on hiatus, prepared for its Saturday Night Live debut on September 26. The North American leg of its WILDWORLD tour opens in Miami on October 13.
