Jagex pulled a Dragon Slayer 2 quest trailer and apologised after players noticed it appeared to contain generative AI. The trailer was shown in the RuneScape keynote at RuneFest in Birmingham on the weekend of 3-4 October 2026.

“We didn't do well enough and can't simply place the blame elsewhere.”

Viewers spotted a player character with six fingers, plus armoured boots with soles that looked like sneakers, and Reddit posts flagged both as signs of AI. Jagex took the video down to investigate. Alec Sween, who works on Old School RuneScape, posted the statement on the 2007scape subreddit. He said the trailer came from an external partner that had explicitly confirmed no GenAI would be used.

Jagex says it allows no generative AI in its games, art or creative assets, and none made knowingly on its behalf. SVP of Product James Dobrowski has told GamesIndustry.biz that GenAI will not touch anything players interact with. The company accepts it should have caught the problem rather than blaming the partner.

It is the second such row within days, after the 100 Thieves clothing collaboration. Jagex says it is overhauling its review process and will commission community creators to tell Dragon Slayer 2's story.
