100 Thieves has apologised after Old School RuneScape players spotted signs of AI in a shirt from its upcoming collaboration with Jagex. The design was teased in a video on 29 September, ahead of a full reveal planned for 2 October.

Players picked out icons that did not belong, such as a hockey mask where the Prayer symbol should be, a garbled Defence icon and a two-headed arrow, and argued the image had never been checked. Teaser posts, including one by creator Jake Lucky, were later deleted.

In a statement on 30 September that opened with "We messed up", 100 Thieves said work with Jagex began in July, giving it just over a month to get the clothing drawn, signed off and manufactured, so several designers were brought in. One of them used AI to rush an edit at the final stage, and the sample went into the photoshoot without anyone catching it.

The company said AI has no place in its apparel design, a view it says Jagex shares, apologised to the community and promised to make things right. It has not said whether the shirt will be redrawn or dropped.

Dexerto notes the episode follows a backlash over Mighty Mike Plays' AI-assisted merch, and Jagex's recent takedown of an AI-made RuneScape clone.
