The Fiji Performing Rights Association (FIPRA) says it is stepping up action against AI-generated and AI-remade music that infringes its members' rights, including asking for such content to be taken down. Chairman Isireli Gumatua announced it at the FIPRA Music Awards 2026 in Suva, The Fiji Times reported on 26 September.
Gumatua said technology will keep changing, but innovation has to respect creators, and protecting members' work comes first. He said Fiji is going through its own "winds of change", with new artists, sounds, tools and opportunities arriving, and that the society wants technology and creativity to advance together while respecting the people who wrote the music.
The awards returned after a two-year gap. Gumatua said the new board had committed to bringing the awards back. Paradise Rootz won Artist of the Year and Best Composition, and Liz Vamarasi took three awards.
