Days after Meta launched Muse Image, its AI image generator in the Meta AI app, Instagram and WhatsApp, the talent agency CAA and the actors' union SAG-AFTRA publicly objected to a feature that lets users name other Instagram accounts in a prompt and fold those people's likenesses into the output.

CAA said it had already raised its clients' concerns with Meta and wants protection on by default, with people choosing to opt in, plus the power to restrict and monitor use, clear labelling of AI content and quick takedowns of anything unauthorised. It said it supports new technology but not at the cost of people's rights or income. SAG-AFTRA called anything short of explicit opt-in unacceptable and told members to opt out in the meantime.

Meta replied that private accounts and under-18s are excluded automatically, that adults with public accounts can opt out in a couple of clicks, and that rule-breaking content will be removed. The feature is due on Facebook and Messenger next.

The dispute follows a SAG-AFTRA studio contract in which AI terms were central, and comes while some stars, including Reese Witherspoon and Sandra Bullock, have urged colleagues to learn the tools rather than resist them.
