Biography

Cheng JIANG (蒋程) is credited as Chief Producer of Mystic Tales: The Spider Lady's Vendetta (《奇谭:纸刃渡荒墟》), and Chinese business press (National Business Daily) also calls him its producer (出品人). The pages read give no birthplace, age or earlier career, so little about his background can be stated.

The film premiered on iQIYI and iQIYI International on 23 July 2026 as China's first AIGC feature released online under an Internet Drama and Film Distribution License, running over 60 minutes. Jiang told National Business Daily that the script and project approval were finished at the end of the previous year and production ran from February to June 2026. The credits list more than thirty people, while other reports put the team at about twenty. It was co-produced by Dameng Innovation and iQIYI and drew on the Classic of Mountains and Seas, Zi Bu Yu and Strange Tales from a Chinese Studio, with over 200 character and visual assets designed.

Jiang described the cost split as about 50 percent for creative talent, 30 percent for production and under 20 percent for computing power, and said returns were meant to come from the new-media matrix, digital-human operation of the characters and series IP, not the film's broadcast income alone. He said a good script cannot be left wholly to AI, that choices should stay with people, and that live-action motion capture by a stunt coordinator was fed to the AI for fight scenes. He also spoke of iQIYI's 20 percent extra revenue-share subsidy for AI films launched within 2026.

In the press release he says advancing model capabilities are steadily resolving scene detail, complex spatial staging, character performance and consistency, pointing to deeper collaboration between human creativity and AI. Reports name Zeng Xiangcheng as director and Liu Haiyang as AI director.
