Tyga has confirmed that AI was part of making $tarface, his 1980s-flavoured synthpop album, after listeners raised the question at release. In a VIBE interview he likened it to the arrival of auto-tune and said he used it for things like quick synth parts and a guitar solo, while the writing and vocals are his own.
The admission adds to a summer of scrutiny over a similar-sounding hit, Fenix Flexin's "RUBBERZ", widely suspected to be AI-made despite Flexin's denials. Tyga said he was already working in that style before hearing it.
It also tests the industry's new chart rules, which accept AI-assisted tracks only when the tool is licensed, the work is substantially human and the streams are clean. How a Suno-assisted record fares is unresolved while Universal and Sony still litigate against Suno.
