SZA used her Instagram accounts on a Sunday in June to condemn AI music and the musicians who use it. She singled out Suno and claimed that Diplo holds equity in the company and is trying to train it on the work of leading Black writers and producers.
She argued that Black artists are the easiest to take from and have little legal protection, and she told musicians not to give their talent to AI training, repeating a line about not giving away their "vibranium". Diplo's representative had not responded to TheWrap by publication.
The posts came a week after Suno's chief product officer, Jack Brody, defended the company on LinkedIn. He said most of its staff are musicians and that users may not upload music they lack rights to. He also said Suno works with Audible Magic, Musixmatch and ACRCloud to catch misuse and avoids artist names as training metadata so its models do not imitate existing acts.
