Olivia Rodrigo put out a remix of "expectations" featuring Chappell Roan on Friday 16 October 2026, along with a retro, 1980s-flavoured video. Viewers online soon said the clip looked AI-made, pointing to warped fingers, mangled hands, vanishing arms and makeup that seemed to change between shots.

About a day later, Rodrigo's official fan channel answered with behind-the-scenes footage. It shows mock-up animation artwork, and its caption says the throwback look came from hand-drawn characters, 2D and 3D animation and analog TV screens. Fans cheered and pushed back at the doubters.
The accusations landed on top of comments she made only days earlier. In a Hollywood Reporter cover story published on 7 October, she ruled out ever using AI in her songs. Her one brush with it, she said, was joking with producer Dan Nigro about asking ChatGPT for song titles; both found them dreadful.
The same profile also dealt with rumours that she was dating an investor at an AI investment firm. She said she is single and finds that kind of scrutiny of her private life invasive.
