The late Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala will return to the stage as a hologram in a world tour called Signed to God, opening in Toronto on 9 October, News9 reports. His father, Balkaur Singh, has authorised a promoter to stage the shows, and he says the family will not use AI to recreate his son's voice.
Dates announced so far run through North America: Vancouver on 15 October, Calgary on 19 October, New York on 23 October, Houston on 30 October and Oakland on 6 November, in a first phase of 10 shows. The tour is expected to reach eight countries, including India, Pakistan, the UK, the UAE, Australia and New Zealand, which would make Moosewala the first Indian artist to tour as a hologram.
Each show is planned at about 100 minutes, of which the hologram segment takes 20 to 25. Past collaborators such as Sunny Malton, Gulab Singh, Raja Kumari and Bohemia are expected to perform live, and the family plans to attend. Speaking to The Tribune, Balkaur Singh said the aim is to keep his son on stage until the singer's younger brother, now about two and a half, is old enough to perform.
Moosewala was shot dead in Mansa district in May 2022, aged 28. Thirteen songs have come out since his death, built from recordings his father says are still turning up; shorter fragments are finished with guest singers or rappers. Hologram shows have previously brought back Tupac Shakur, Whitney Houston, Michael Jackson and Roy Orbison.
