The Sanremo Music Festival has put its AI position in writing for the 2027 edition, running 16 to 20 February. Prompted by Italy's recording body FIMI, the rules stop short of a ban but require that songs be expressions of human creativity, forbidding any use in conception, composition or production that replaces, alters or distorts the human contribution.
What counts as alteration is left open, a problem Korea's collecting society hit with a policy it later reversed. The incentive still points one way: broadcaster RAI and artistic director Stefano De Martino may use any technical means to check entries, so contestants will likely avoid generative tools rather than test the line.
Digital Music News reads the stance as a snapshot of the moment, with artists split and labels licensing AI while suing over it. It notes the live side is being tested from the other direction: the AI streamers Neuro-sama and Evil Neuro sold out a Los Angeles concert in about a day.
