Gerencia, a Burbank-based Latin and regional Mexican label and management company, has filed a copyright suit against Suno in California federal court. It also names Bright Data, an Israeli firm selling large scraped datasets, as a defendant.
The complaint says Suno pulled Gerencia's recordings from YouTube and Deezer with scraping tools that got around logins, paywalls and anti-bot defences, partly via Bright Data's proxies, then trained on them. One example: asked to cover a Norteño hit, Suno refused the Spanish lyrics but produced an English version under a translated title. Gerencia wants about $66.6 million from each defendant for infringement, plus around $33 million for DMCA violations.
The case closely mirrors Round Hill's suit against Suno and Bright Data, with the same law firms involved. Digital Music News expects more suits built on this model.
