Paramount Skydance has joined the studios confronting ByteDance, sending its chief executive a cease-and-desist letter that accuses the company of building and running its AI video and image tools on Paramount's content without consent.
The letter, which TheWrap saw, covers the Seedance and Seedream generators and demands two things: that Paramount material stop being used to train or feed them, and that infringing results be taken down. It lists franchises including South Park, SpongeBob SquarePants, Star Trek, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, The Godfather and Dora the Explorer.
Paramount calls it self-evident that its work went into the models, and objects to both the training and the lookalike outputs.
It came a day after Disney's own letter, and after the MPA and the Human Artistry Campaign criticised ByteDance over the Seedance 2.0 rollout. ByteDance had not answered publicly when the story ran.
