Muse singer Matt Bellamy says the band gave up its short @muse handle on Instagram and X by agreement with Mark Zuckerberg, whose company now uses the name for its Meta AI agent. Fans had noticed the switch and read it as a tech giant helping itself to a name the band has used for three decades.
In an iHeartRadio interview, Bellamy said the two met and talked it through, and that Zuckerberg sent him an early build of the assistant. He described a trademark split: Meta stays out of music and merchandise, and the band cannot build an AI under the name.
MusicRadar recalls the Apple Computer and Apple Corps dispute as a sign such carve-outs can be tested later.
