Suno has failed to get most of a lawsuit by Tony Justice, an independent country artist and truck driver, thrown out. Judge F. Dennis Saylor IV of the federal court in Massachusetts dismissed only a claim under Tennessee's consumer protection law. Claims that Suno trained on protected songs and broke the DMCA go ahead.
Suno had spent months trying to narrow the case, which Justice brought with his label 5th Wheel Records and other artists, arguing that the court should focus on whether training counts as fair use.
Justice presents the suit as small artists pushing back against big tech as AI tracks eat into streaming income. His lawyers at Delgado Entertainment Law and Hagens Berman welcomed the decision as a good sign for independent musicians; Suno's counsel had not commented when the report ran.
