The global recording industry body IFPI has issued principles for deciding whether songs made with generative AI can appear in official charts. It follows similar guidance from a coalition including Sony, Universal and Warner the week before.
A track qualifies only if the AI service behind it is authorised and lawful, the recording is substantially made by humans, and there is no sign of stream or chart manipulation. The aim is to separate human-led work from purely synthetic tracks and those from unlicensed models.
IFPI says licensed AI can still be part of the creative toolkit, while charts should keep celebrating human artistry. The rules are meant as a shared guide for chart compilers worldwide.
