The Golden Globes have updated their eligibility rules so that using AI, generative tools included, does not on its own rule a film or series out, as long as human creative direction and authorship remain primary.
Every entry must now disclose how generative AI was used and whether any actor's performance was altered with it. Acting awards will only go to performances that come mainly from the credited performer; AI may support a performance, for example through de-ageing, if the actor authorised it and the work stays theirs.
The update arrived less than a week after the Academy ruled on May 1 that Oscar-eligible roles must be performed by consenting humans and screenplays written by people. TheWrap notes the Globes do not define where primary human authorship ends, and the eligibility committee's AI calls are final.
