Japan's game industry association CESA says 85.8% of the commercial game developers it surveyed use generative AI at work, 63.0% daily and 22.8% now and then, KAI-YOU reports. The 1,349 replies, gathered online from May to August, appear in a report preview handed out at Tokyo Game Show on 17 September.
It is the first time CESA has surveyed AI use. Of 48 member firms that answered, 38 expect efficiency gains, 30 shorter development, 29 lower costs and 22 new ideas.
Most firms have people check AI output, and many limit which tools staff can use. Executive director Tsutomu Masuda said copyright and other rights need care and called for human-centred game making.
