Ahoy Comics says it is the first publisher to take up "100% Human-Made", an open-source certification created by cartoonist Matt Kindt. It is meant to show that a comic, graphic novel or piece of visual, musical or audio work comes wholly from human imagination, with nothing designed or enhanced by generative AI. The emblem will go on all of Ahoy's future books, starting with Mark Russell and Russ Braun's The Forgotten Divine, currently on Kickstarter. It follows an unhoused veteran whose dreams of a distant planet lead him to the head of a UFO cult.
Kindt's mark debuts on Mind MGMT: New & Improved #1 from his Flux House imprint, which has moved to Oni Press. It is licensed under Creative Commons BY-SA 4.0, so creators in comics, music or audio can use and adapt it, commercially or not, as long as they keep the attribution.
Editor-in-chief Tom Peyer said the publisher wants readers to know its books come entirely from its human creators, and called AI widely loathed in legitimate comics.
