Synopsis

DEVI: The Nine Astras is an action-mythology story about the divine manifestation of Shakti, told through the nine forms of Goddess Durga, one for each night of Navratri. Each episode gives one form her own short vignette, and together the nine are meant to read as interconnected chapters.

The first episode, Shailaputri, opens as the fires of Daksha's sacrifice cool and the Supreme Mother takes form on the frozen peaks of the Himalayas. Armed with the trident and a sacred lotus, she restores cosmic balance in a martial confrontation on the glacier, and the episode closes on the ascension of the sacred bull Nandi.

Later episodes follow the other forms, among them Brahmacharini, Chandraghanta, Kushmanda, Skandamata, Katyayani, Kalaratri, Mahagauri and Siddhidatri. One actress plays the Goddess across all nine manifestations. The tone is devotional and spectacle-driven, with combat and cosmic imagery.

About the Show

DEVI: The Nine Astras is a nine-episode web series from Kalpanik Films LLP, a Mumbai studio founded and led by Vishal Yoman and Ayushi Anand. Each episode runs about three and a half to four minutes on YouTube, and the Indian Television report describes the whole as a 30-minute show of nine three-minute episodes. It premiered at a showcase at the Indian Institute of Creative Technologies (IICT) in Mumbai, where it opened a screening of four AI-enabled films made under the IICT-YouTube Create with AI programme, and the episodes went up on the Kalpanik Films YouTube channel on 7 October 2026, timed to Shardiya Navratri.

The makers say it was produced within Google's generative AI tools. According to the report, research into the Puranas was done with NotebookLM's help for the scripting, Google Vids and Google Veo produced the cinematic visuals, and Flow Music made the title track. The report does not name a Veo version. The channel's credits give Yoman and Anand as directors, and the Instagram posts add Famous as post production.

The project also tried what the team calls AI casting. Actress Nyra Banerjee (credited on YouTube as Nyrraa M Banerji) is the face of the Goddess in all nine forms, with AI used so her character could appear across the manifestations without a shoot for each. Yoman called it an early experiment in making actors AI-enabled, and the video description calls it India's first ethical AI casting pipeline. Anand stressed that the human performer carries the emotional layer.

Yoman and Anand's studio describes itself as a generative-AI video production company doing AI films, ads, music videos, animation and influencers. IICT's CEO, Dr Vishwas Deoskar, said the institute's collaboration with YouTube began a year earlier. Google India published a short video about the project in October 2026. No reviews or awards were found.
