Synopsis

Bersama Majulah (Together, Onward) is a four-minute zombie-outbreak short set in Lionara, a fictional country that closely resembles Singapore. It opens on a depiction of the 2026 National Day Parade, where a deadly spore pathogen first takes hold and turns people into what appear to be zombies.

The visuals borrow local landmarks, including the Marina Bay skyline and the Merlion, so the attack lands on a celebration the audience knows. A TikTok post for the film describes two siblings who must choose between resisting and evolving as the anthem breaks and the sky falls.

The film is a spinoff of the studio's series Spore Fall, a sci-fi microdrama whose characters include a soldier and a medic. Its tone is dystopian and tense, setting fear against the unity a national celebration stands for. Creator Joel Boh has defended the choice, saying the nation's identity can be reimagined without losing its unity.

About the Show

Bersama Majulah (Malay for "Together Onwards") is a four-minute, AI-assisted short film from the Singapore studio Edenstone, themed around National Day. It was released on the studio's site, sporefall.com, to coincide with National Day on 9 August 2026, and is also on YouTube.

Edenstone calls the work "human-written, AI-realised". Creator and showrunner Joel Boh told Mothership the concept is fully human-conceptualised and that AI handles only the execution layer: environments, visual effects and production scaling. The Star's report adds that human authors wrote the narrative, scripts, characters and world, with AI used under human creative direction to speed up visual assets. None of the pages name the AI tools used.

The film is adapted from Spore Fall, which Edenstone calls Southeast Asia's first human-written, AI-realised transmedia franchise. Spore Fall began as a novel in early 2025; Boh says it moved to a micro-drama series once AI tools matured, because traditional publishing was too slow. Edenstone says it launched what it calls Southeast Asia's first AI-driven microdrama in April 2026 (The Star dates the series' release on sporefall.com to March). Chan Gin Kai, a 2025 Golden Horse Award-winning producer, is executive producer, and the theme song was composed by the Singaporean musician Dharma Sadasivan.

A four-minute teaser drew debate before release. The studio said it expected its creative choices, including renaming Singapore as Lionara, to polarise viewers. Boh told Mothership some people were watching to the end just to leave a negative comment, which he reads as audiences wanting connection but resisting AI-generated content. Some commenters compared it unfavourably with The Last of Us. Boh also defended showing a dystopian Singapore on National Day, and said "Technology should serve the story, not the other way around."

In a blog post dated 17 August 2026, Edenstone reported about 70,000 unique visitors to sporefall.com in the first three days, three server crashes, 85-93 percent viewer retention on the film and about two minutes average engagement on the site. The YouTube upload had 10,387 views, and the TikTok teaser 110,700, when read on 8 October 2026.

The film arrived amid wider argument over AI in screen work: The Star's report places it beside China's withdrawal of the AI microdrama The Peach Blossom Hairpin over likeness complaints. Edenstone itself says it aimed for cultural impact and frames the response as a sign of that impact; the post also asks readers to support its effort to put a film in theatres.
