About this song
A dance cover of Madonna's 'Like a Prayer' (written by Madonna and Patrick Leonard) by the Queensland-based Australian DJ and producer Josh Fawaz, released on Hallwood on 14 April 2026 as a single of about two minutes.
It became the best-known track of his catalogue. ABC reported in July 2026 that it had topped Australia's national radio airplay chart for four weeks and reached No. 4 on the ARIA Australian Singles and Dance Singles charts. Mixmag Asia reported more than 38 million Spotify streams as of 21 July 2026; Spotify showed about 62.5 million plays on 6 October 2026, and the official lyric video on YouTube about 28.9 million views.
The song drew criticism from producers and academics who believed it was made with generative AI. Fawaz replied on Instagram that he uses AI as a tool. On 17 July 2026 he updated the Spotify credits to list generative AI vocals and AI drums, after Spotify urged artists to declare AI use. Later coverage reported that he fed rough vocal recordings into Suno to produce the finished vocal.
