About Josh Fawaz
Josh Fawaz is an Australian DJ and music producer based in Brisbane, Queensland, who has released music since 2015. Wikipedia lists his debut as the EP Bubble Goose in 2015, and his records come out on the Hallwood label. His output is dance and house, much of it club versions of well-known songs.
His breakout came in 2026 with a dance version of Madonna's "Like a Prayer", which Rolling Stone Australia reports spent four weeks at the top of Australia's national radio airplay chart and passed 38 million Spotify streams by July. Wikipedia records it charting in Australia and the UK and on Billboard's dance charts. The EP Dance Like Nobody's Watching followed on 22 May 2026, and was extended into the album Dance Like Everyone's Watching on 26 June 2026. On the Wikipedia-listed charts the song peaked at 67 in Australia and 63 in the UK, and reached number 4 on the US dance and electronic chart in June 2026.
How the music is made became the story. Rolling Stone Australia describes a video in which he sings deliberately rough vocals and feeds the recording into the generative AI tool Suno, which returns a polished vocal with a different tone. Producer Mitch Thomas publicly questioned his methods from May, and after an ABC investigation his Spotify credits were updated in July 2026 to acknowledge generative AI for vocals and drums. In August 2026 ARIA announced a ban on songs largely or wholly made by AI from its charts, as the BBC reported. In a reply to Thomas on 23 June he wrote, "I use AI as a tool, it's not that deep," adding that he was releasing music before AI existed. Spotify's artist page carries no "AI Persona" label, and no page names a studio or co-writers.
His reach is large: in October 2026 his Instagram showed about 167,400 followers, TikTok about 343,500, YouTube about 65,800 subscribers, and Spotify reported roughly 4.9 million monthly listeners. His TikTok bio states it is his only account.
