Biography
Tommy English, born Thomas James Schleiter on May 8, 1986, is an American songwriter and record producer whom Wikipedia calls multi-platinum. He grew up in the northwest suburbs of Chicago, where he played soccer, wrote songs and learned piano, trumpet, drums and guitar, and he says his parents stressed music education.
He started as a performer at 19, when his band Powerspace signed to Fueled By Ramen, and he was also lead guitarist of Bad City. Two years after graduating from Miami University he moved into production and engineering, first in Chicago and then in Los Angeles. He mainly works out of PWZ Custom Recordings, his studios in Los Angeles and Nashville.
He is best known for his work with BØRNS, including the platinum single "Electric Love", and for co-writing Kacey Musgraves' platinum single "High Horse" and her 2024 song "Sway". He has also worked with K.Flay, Noah Cyrus, COIN and Ricky Montgomery, and his recent credits include songs with the Jonas Brothers, Nick Jonas and Joe Jonas. A credit on Kacey Musgraves' "Past Lives" is listed on his page.
He received his first Grammy nomination in 2018 for his contributions to K.Flay's Every Where Is Some Where, and Recording Academy nods for Musgraves' Golden Hour (Album of the Year and Best Country Album) and, in 2024, for Deeper Well (Best Country Album). In 2025 he launched the independent label Superglue Records with artist and producer Ella Vos; its first signing is Dutch indie-pop artist Mia Nicolai.
