Biography
Taylor Matter is a director listed by the AI International Film Festival as from the United States. His 12-minute short Crownless & Bound (2026) had its world premiere at the festival. It is adapted from a scene in a novel Matter wrote, set in late 16th-century England, in which a young commoner finds a rare gemstone.
The whole film takes place inside a single building. According to the festival, Matter modelled it in Blender, textured it in Adobe Substance 3D Painter, then projected photography onto the geometry and inpainted the surfaces before filming inside the set with Seedance and Runway. The sound was made with AudioStack, Suno and ElevenLabs. Asked from the floor what the film cost, he put it at about $900. Crownless & Bound won the jury prizes for Best Short Director and Best Story, and the audience prize for Most Surprising.
