Is Rozy AI?
Yes. Rozy is a computer-generated virtual influencer and singer made by the Seoul content studio Sidus Studio X, an affiliate of Locus, which presents her as Korea's first virtual human.
The company that makes Rozy says she is not a real person, and the press agrees. Korea JoongAng Daily calls her "a 100-percent computer generated avatar", and Korea.net and The Korea Times say Sidus Studio X built her face by combining faces favoured by people in their teens and twenties. In a 2021 Maeil Business interview carried on Daum, Sidus director Kim Jin-soo said her expressions and movements in her Instagram posts and TV ads are made with deep learning trained on large amounts of data. The same interview notes that Rozy did not reveal she was virtual at first and disclosed it only in late 2020.
No page names a human who performs, voices or poses as her. Korea.net does say her nearly 800 facial expressions and movements were extracted from an actor through 3D modelling, so a real person's performance went into her. That actor is not named, though, and the studio presents the result as its own 3D character. Korea.net also contrasts her with deepfake personas such as Rui, which put a virtual face onto a real person.
The main open question is her music. Her debut EP "Who Am I" (2022) was produced by Jeong Jae-won, but none of these pages say whose voice is heard on her songs, or whether a body double appears in her photos or the Shinhan Life dance ad.
Evidence
Korea JoongAng Daily, reporting ShinhanLife's ad, states that Rozy is not a real person but a 100-percent computer-generated avatar created by Sidus Studio X.
koreajoongangdaily.comSidus Studio X director Kim Jin-soo told Maeil Business that Rozy's expressions and movements in her posts and TV ads are produced with deep-learning AI, and that she hid being virtual until late 2020.
v.daum.netKorea.net calls Rozy Korea's first virtual human, made by Sidus Studio X from favoured looks and nearly 800 expressions and movements captured from an unnamed actor through 3D modelling.
korea.netThe Korea Times reports that Sidus Studio X made Rozy by using AI to combine faces preferred by Millennials and Gen Z, ahead of her debut as a singer in February 2022.
