Biography
Perry Bhandal is a British filmmaker of Sikh heritage, born in Taplow, England, on 12 January 1968. He studied for a BSc at the University of Manchester, then took master's degrees in film and in creative writing at Brunel University. Wikipedia describes him as a film director, screenwriter, producer and author, and he runs the production company Kirlian Pictures, founded in May 2009.
His debut feature, Interview with a Hitman, was shot in 18 days in August 2011 in Newcastle and Bucharest. It was shown at the Cannes Film Festival market in May 2012, released in UK cinemas on 20 July 2012 and distributed in the US from 5 March 2013. In 2019 he directed, wrote and produced The Last Boy, a science fiction fantasy thriller inspired by the poet Rumi, with Luke Goss in the cast.
Beyond film he has published the short story and artwork collection _prelude and the crime thriller The Winter Man, both in 2020. In recent years he has turned to generative AI tools, which he has called "the most powerful equaliser in cinema history" because they let independent filmmakers achieve effects once needing million-dollar budgets. Franceinfo featured him on generative AI in auteur cinema in May 2025.
Okay, It's Time to Go (2024-2026) is his generative-AI dystopian film, about personal autonomy, population collapse and corporate ethics, built around a fictional suicide device called the "Stopwatch". The pages read mention no awards or disputes.
