Biography

Michael Ross Pollack is an American songwriter and record producer, born on April 26, 1994, in Roslyn, New York. He began playing piano, singing and writing songs young, performed with a Billy Joel cover band and worked with Joel's saxophonist Richie Cannata. He went on to Vanderbilt University in Nashville.

In his freshman year Billy Joel visited campus and Pollack asked to accompany him on piano, a moment that went viral. It led to a joint publishing deal with Warner Chappell Music and Pete Ganbarg in his sophomore year. After graduating he moved to Los Angeles and wrote often with Ari Leff and Michael Matosic.

He has co-written for Miley Cyrus, Beyonce, Maroon 5, Justin Bieber, Selena Gomez, Katy Perry and the Jonas Brothers. His credits include Maroon 5's "Memories", which topped the Radio Songs chart, Cyrus's "Flowers", which debuted at No. 1 on the Hot 100, and Bieber's "Ghost". He often works with producers such as Jon Bellion and The Monsters & Strangerz, and co-wrote and executive produced Ben Platt's 2021 album Reverie.

He won the Grammy for Record of the Year for "Flowers" and was BMI Pop Awards Songwriter of the Year in 2022. In 2024 he became a principal and owner of the independent publisher Livelihood Music Company.
