About Alec Benjamin

Alec Shane Benjamin is an American singer-songwriter born on 28 May 1994 in Phoenix, Arizona. He plays vocals, guitar and piano and writes indie, folk-pop and alt-pop music. He began writing songs at thirteen and learned guitar in high school.

He released the EP America in 2013 and signed with Columbia Records, but the arrangement ended soon after. He then funded a European tour himself, playing in parking lots and handing out business cards to promote his music.

His 2018 mixtape Narrated for You included "Let Me Down Slowly", which reached the top 40 in more than 25 countries and led to a deal with Atlantic Records. A re-release featuring Alessia Cara went 5x Platinum with the RIAA.

He has released three studio albums: These Two Windows (2020), which peaked at number 8 on Billboard's Top Album Sales chart, (Un)Commentary (2022) and 12 Notes (2024). He cites Eminem, John Mayer, Jason Mraz, Paul Simon, Kendrick Lamar, Joni Mitchell, Leonard Cohen and Jackson Browne as influences. As of November 2025 he averaged about 12.99 million monthly listeners.
