Biography
Amina Ömirjan (also transliterated Umirzhanova) is a Kazakh storyboard artist and 2D animator from Almaty, now based in Los Angeles. She studied animation at the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD), graduating in 2025. In a January 2025 interview she said she had wanted to be an animator since she was 12 and went abroad because in-depth animation training was not available at home.
Her SCAD senior capstone, Ümit, is a roughly three-minute 2D/3D short about a young astronomer trying to bring the sun back to her village in a 15th-century Kazakh kingdom, made by a student team over 30 weeks; she has framed it as a tribute to her Kazakh heritage. It was entered in the 2025 Rookie Awards and shown in the Computer Animation Festival at SIGGRAPH Asia 2025. At SCAD she was also a 2D animator and storyboard artist on the student short Time Flies, which was nominated for the Television Academy Foundation's 44th College Television Awards.
After graduating she was working in Los Angeles when AI video company Higgsfield approached her; Forbes Kazakhstan reported in August 2026 that she had been there about three and a half months. She is one of the credited directors of Kök Börü, Higgsfield's 15-minute animated short about a nomadic mother searching for a daughter lost to a wolf pack, which premiered at SIGGRAPH 2026 in Los Angeles. Higgsfield says it took two weeks, with designs generated in its Soul Cartoon tool and refined by hand and native Kazakh actors voicing the characters.
She has said AI let the team move faster while people made every creative decision, and that it was used as a tool rather than as a replacement for artists.
