Presenting the Oscar for best animated short on 15 March, Will Arnett defended animation against AI, telling the room the night was about people, not AI, and that the form is "more than a prompt" and needs protecting. The crowd applauded.
It followed a scripted bit with co-presenter Channing Tatum joking that voice acting is lesser work; Arnett's voice credits include BoJack Horseman.
The short award went to The Girl Who Cried Pearls, and KPop Demon Hunters took best animated feature.
