HYPEVERSE, a five-member virtual idol group from South Korea, has chosen Universal Music as its main distribution partner and says it is going after the American market first. The group put out its pre-debut English single "Weirdo" at 6 p.m. Korean time on 7 October 2026, and its official debut is pencilled in for the first half of 2027.

The distribution agreement is with Universal Music Korea and covers releases at home and abroad. "Weirdo" is a bubblegum pop track sung entirely in English, and the members themselves speak mostly English as well. The look mixes goblin and nine-tailed-fox imagery with street fashion and an anime-influenced visual direction. Earlier releases included individual member trailers and a dance cover featuring Mako, a bulldog character.

The group is made by Philandart Studio, a Korean content-technology startup. One outlet spells the name Fillandart, but the other two reports agree on Philandart. The studio runs its own real-time motion capture and toon-shading tools, with AI used to help correct the results. Its team combines Korean producers, overseas production crews and multinational artists, Americans among them.

The agency's position is that every part of the project, from the music and language to the characters and clothes, was designed with American fans in mind from the planning stage. The single's title reflects that pitch: the group presents itself as a gang of misfits whose odd tastes are the selling point. Korean reporters treat the launch as a test of whether a virtual K-pop act can find an audience in the United States.

For context, one report notes that virtual groups such as Isegye Idol and Plave have already gained popularity inside K-pop. HYPEVERSE's next step is the full debut next year, with live shows, VR concerts and virtual fan meetings planned around it. Nothing in the reports gives sales or streaming figures yet, so the American ambition remains a stated plan rather than a result.

Taken together, the three reports describe a release strategy built around language and fashion as much as sound: an English-only song, English-speaking characters and a design brief written for a US audience, delivered through a major label's network. The studio's in-house motion-capture tools sit behind the characters, and the live shows, VR concerts and virtual fan meetings are the planned follow-up.
