amersia, the AI venture set up by Vertigo Films co-founders James Richardson and Allan Niblo with Federation Studios, has released its first product, a production system called Woven, Televisual reported on 12 May. It also showed a first still from Critterz, its debut feature made with the tool.

Critterz came out of the OpenAI world: it was created by OpenAI producer Chad Nelson, and the original short was made at the studio Native Foreign. Woven began as amersia's in-house pipeline for the film and is now on trial with a few media companies before a wider launch.

Native Foreign co-founder Nik Kleverov, who spent 15 years on work from the Narcos title sequence to what was billed as the first AI-generated commercial, for Toys R Us, directs Critterz and leads amersia's creative side. He says the system takes over repetitive production work so artists can focus on decisions, while Richardson calls AI the next turning point after sound and CGI.

Richardson and Niblo produced and distributed more than 100 films and TV series before Vertigo joined Federation, which now acts as founding partner and a bridge between conventional and AI-led production. The team was due at Cannes that month.
