Taylor Swift has filed three US trademark applications: two sound marks for the spoken phrases "Hey, It's Taylor Swift" and "Hey, It's Taylor", and a visual mark describing a specific stage photo of her with a pink guitar and iridescent bodysuit.
IP lawyer Josh Gerben, who spotted the filings, says copyright protects recordings but not new material that imitates a voice. Trademark law also covers "confusingly similar" uses, which could reach AI clones of her voice or image rather than just copies of a recording. The photo mark, down to the outfit and pose, would give her team another basis for going after doctored or AI-made pictures.
Matthew McConaughey made similar filings earlier, including his "Alright, alright, alright" line. The actor has said he wants consent and attribution to be the norm. Gerben says both are testing how trademark law will work with AI.
