Spotify has published details of how its service works inside Muse, the personal AI agent from Meta. Once a user links the two, they can ask Muse by conversation to play music, save tracks to their Library, assemble playlists or locate a book or podcast. Spotify has been one of Muse's connectors since the agent launched on 8 September, and the new post followed Meta's Connect keynote on 23 September, which made the agent central to its plans. RouteNote calls Spotify the first music streaming service to tie in with Muse.

“Agentic third-party applications such as Muse have the same obligations, and we’ve requested that Meta remove Amazon from the experience”

Amazon spokesperson, to GeekWire, as quoted by Music Business Worldwide · musicbusinessworldwide.com ↗

The examples show what an agent can do that a search box cannot: a road-trip playlist built from a destination in the user's calendar and set to start at departure, a podcast picked up where it was left, a saved playlist sent to a kitchen speaker, or focus music queued for a set time. A Personal Podcast feature turns daily briefings, notes and ideas into audio that lands in the Library. Connectors are switched on under Settings in the Muse app, or by asking the agent.

Availability is narrow. Muse's own path has had bumps: Meta switched off its Muse Image feature in July after criticism from CAA and SAG-AFTRA, and the band Muse had to hand the social handle to Meta after trademark talks. Muse runs on a dedicated secure virtual machine and is powered by Meta's Muse Spark model. It is out in the US on iOS, Android, muse.ai and WhatsApp, with a Mac app from 17 September and Canada from 18 September, and it is for adults only, so the Spotify link works only in those two countries for now. RouteNote, citing TechCrunch, says the app drew 2.8 million downloads in its first twelve days. Meta says users choose which apps the agent reaches, that it checks before sensitive actions, and that it cannot see passwords or payment details.

SoyaCincau draws a line between Muse, which takes actions, and Spotify's own AI features and its ChatGPT presence, which lean towards discovery and chat. Spotify arrived in ChatGPT in October 2025 and in Claude in April 2026, and since July a beta has let Premium users talk to the Spotify app itself. Not every company is welcoming the agent: Amazon has asked Meta to take it out of Muse, saying agentic apps need a merchant's agreement. Spotify says this is only a start and promises more ways to deepen the integration. It frames the tie-up as the latest place it is meeting listeners, with its service already on more than 2,000 devices, from cars and TVs to speakers and chatbots. In the second quarter of 2026 it counted 300 million Premium subscribers and 777 million monthly users.
