Shanghai wrapped up its first 100-Hour AI Micro-Drama Creation Contest on September 24 at the CMG Integrated Media Cinema, a timed competition testing whether generative tools can carry a short drama from idea and script to finished episode in roughly four days, Chinese state broadcaster CGTN reports.

The organisers received 316 applications, from 171 solo creators and 145 teams, close to 600 people in all from 27 Chinese provinces plus North America, Europe and Southeast Asia. Fifteen shortlisted teams had to deliver a complete work to a fixed schedule meant to mimic real industry deadlines, using AI-simulated performers, automated animation, 3D scene building and detailed prompt writing. Seven works shared eight awards.

CGTN says the city plans further support for the format, which it frames as a test of whether AI can change how production itself is organised. It ran alongside a new digital interactive media category at the WorldSkills Competition in Shanghai.
