Amazon's Prime Video announced on September 9 a lip-sync feature that uses AI to adjust actors' mouth movements so they match dubbed dialogue, which is still recorded by human voice actors. It is already switched on for the first two seasons of the series Maxton Hall.
Season 3 will carry it from its December 9 premiere, and Amazon says more titles will follow in the coming months. Prime Video's technology chief Raf Soltanovich pitched it as smoother viewing for audiences and a wider reach for creators, with changes made under creative oversight.
The launch is one of a run of AI moves by Amazon this year, including an AI podcast feature for Alexa+ in May, a fund and series orders for AI-assisted animation, and a July pledge to spend a further $20 billion on AI.
