Ed Catmull, who co-founded Pixar and later ran Disney Animation, is a juror for the new Higgsfield Global Film Festival, a contest for generative AI films. Entrants must subscribe to Higgsfield and make their films in its Cinema Studio tool.
CEO Alex Mashrabov said Pixar's mix of artists and engineers inspired the company, and that Catmull will help judge a first generation of AI filmmakers. The campaign leans on his five Oscars, Toy Story and his Turing Award.
The outlet reads the hire as Higgsfield tying Pixar's CG revolution to its own, and questions whether outsiders, or the artists affected, will accept the comparison.
