Paris Hilton went to Capitol Hill on January 22 to campaign for the DEFIANCE Act, a bill that would let victims sue the people who make and spread sexually explicit AI deepfakes of them without consent.
She tied the issue to her own past: the intimate video released without her permission when she was 19, which she said was treated as a scandal when it was abuse, at a time when no law protected her. She thought that was behind her until AI arrived, and says around 100,000 fake explicit images of her now exist.
Hilton argued that what once took a betrayal of trust now takes only a computer, and called deepfake pornography "the newest form of victimization", one now reaching ordinary women and girls at scale.
